Turquoise forms when mineral-rich water seeps into cracks and voids within rocks containing copper and aluminum. This process, which takes millions of years, involves a chemical reaction where the water leaches out these minerals, this ancient flow creates a new mineral, turquoise. The color of the turquoise depends on the specific minerals present in the surrounding rock, with copper contributing to blue shades and aluminum contributing to green.
The turquoise in this necklace was hand picked from Kingman Mine store in Kingman, Arizona during my last visit there. Like most turquoise on the market, it has been stabilized to seal the porous surfaces. The color and unique matrix are all natural.
The oval bead is wire wrapped in sterling silver and hung on a beaded cable chain and finished with a spring ring clasp and accent beads. Perfect for layering!
